Navigating Nourishment: Overcoming Feeding Challenges with our Expert Guidance

The feeding journey is tricky and can be laden with uncertainties, doubts, and hardships. New mothers often express concerns regarding the insufficient educational guidance they receive concerning breastfeeding post-childbirth. As they step into the world of motherhood, they find themselves with limited knowledge regarding how to support the growth and nourishment of their little one and grapple with overwhelming feelings of isolation during the initial stages of breastfeeding. Moreover, the absence of proper instruction on feeding techniques, feeding schedules, and pumping further aggravates their confusion. This lack of guidance can contribute to the mother’s anxiety about their baby’s development.

At Nannies&more we offer mothers holistic care, support, and guidance to smoothly navigate the world of lactation and breastfeeding. Whether you decide to breastfeed, use formula, or a combination of both, our expert DHA-licensed International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) are here to empower you in your journey.

Prenatal and Postnatal Lactation Support:

Breastfeeding Class is for pregnant women in their last trimester or new moms with babies less than 4 weeks old. This can be done in 1:1 sessions or group classes and can be taken online or in person. Our breastfeeding class led by our lactation consultant equips mothers who are in their third trimester with essential knowledge and practical tips on breastfeeding, latching, mixed feeding, and pumping. This class ensures that soon-to-be mothers are well-informed and confident as they approach their breastfeeding journey. It helps for them to be aware of what to expect in terms of breastfeeding in the early days and weeks after having a baby and to dispel common myths and misinformation. It also focuses on building the breast milk supply when the baby is not exclusively breastfeeding in the first 2 weeks. We approach this class from a lens of support, the mother’s informed choice and empowerment. Additionally, if it’s  a group class, it provides an opportunity for social interaction among expectant mothers, creating a nurturing community of support for the soon-to-be mama.

Our specialized prenatal lactation consultation caters to the needs of mothers who have had previous breastfeeding experience or those who, due to various reasons, were unable or had challenges breastfeeding their first baby. In this consultation, your previous journey or challenges are assessed and its relevance to your future breastfeeding journey is evaluated. Our Lactation Consultant then forms a comprehensive plan for you to minimize the recurrence of those issues if they can’t be fully avoided and then provides you with follow up during the first week when the baby is born ( Follow up is online). This consultation is helpful for mothers who experienced difficulties in their initial breastfeeding journey and presented challenges related to low milk supply, latching or were not able to breastfeed due to medication or other related constraints.

Our lactation consultant offers valuable support to overcome these challenges by offering comprehensive and practical support and solutions. For women who have attempted to breastfeed and struggled in the past, the lactation specialist engages in a thorough examination of the presenting problem and carries out personalized assessments to effectively tackle the issue. This customized approach ensures that mothers feel more equipped and confident in navigating their breastfeeding journey, even in the face of previous challenges or concerns.

Our lactation consultation is tailored for mothers and babies at various stages of breastfeeding. It aims to equip mothers with knowledge and confidence to start their journey strong. Furthermore, it addresses issues regarding improper latching, painful nursing, baby breast rejection, low milk supply, and other feeding concerns. The first Lactation Consultation session typically takes upto 2 hours which includes evaluation of breastfeeding, pumping (if mother is pumping), pre and post breastfeeding weight is recorded on a pediatric scale to deduce how much milk baby consumed in a specific time, to get rough estimate of the amount of milk consumed during breastfeeding in a day. Furthermore, this support package enables a timely check-up on the progress of the mama-baby lactation journey. Multiple sessions allow for our Lactation Consultant to provide ongoing support to adapt and provide relevant suggestions to address any challenges that may arise and smoothen the feeding experience for mama and baby.

We know that returning to work and leaving your child at home can be a daunting process, especially if you are breastfeeding. We are here to support you, working mamas! Our ‘Back to Work’ Lactation Consultation supports mothers with practical tips not only in sustaining their breast milk supply when returning to work but also in planning for pumping at work, storage and labeling of milk and advocating for yourself with your company. We provide a comprehensive assessment of milk production, provide optimal pumping schedules, pump selection guidance, session evaluations, and a personalized lactation plan with a follow up on your pumping records for upto 2 weeks once you go back to work to ensure that the supply is preserved as much as possible. We aim to empower working moms as they re-enter the professional world, ensuring a successful lactation journey with the confidence that their child is nurtured and well-cared for when they are away.

Our lactation consultant plays a crucial role in facilitating the transition to solid foods by evaluating your baby’s feeding habits and taking into account your household dietary preferences. With this information, our lactation specialist develops a personalized diet plan for introducing fruits, vegetables, and cereals when your baby reaches six months of age. The Lactation Consultant also provides parents with information on how to make the introduction of solids easier when some babies resist solids because of specific textures or feeding devices.

We create a tailored plan for gradual weaning by assessing your current breastfeeding or bottle-feeding pattern and developing a strategy to transition away from breastfeeds/bottles. When the time is right to make the switch, our consultant will provide you with a list of foods you can feed your baby to ensure optimal growth and nutrition intake alongside a gradual weaning plan, dropping one session at a time and providing other bonding solutions to slowly remove breastfeeding from the bonding equation.
